Bengaluru: Karnataka lad B.R. Nikshep and R. Abhinikka of Tamil Nadu emerged the boys and girls’ singles champions respectively at the R.T. Narayan Memorial AITA National Series Under-16 tennis tournament which concluded at the KSLTA Stadium here on Sunday.
Top seed Nikshep ousted Rian Pandole of Maharashtra 6-3, 6-2 in a title tilt which lasted 100 minutes. All eyes were on local favourite Nikshep
who did not let the home crowd down. For the better part of the contest, Nikshep was in control of the proceedings against his ninth seed opponent.
Although Pandole had his moment, he failed to capitalise on them and allowed Nikshep to walk away with the winner’s trophy.
In the girls’ final, second seed Abhinikka defeated the top seed Snehal Mane of Maharashtra 6-4, 6-0.
