Work on GCDA laser show project begins
Kochi: Construction works of the musical-water-fountain-cum-laser-show at Rajendra Maidan, proposed by the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA), started on Friday. The development authority initiated the project after conducting a feasibility study.
“A Bangalore-based firm with proven track record in setting up similar projects in other cities is carrying out the project. The works are expected to be completed in three months,” said N. Venugopal, GCDA chairman.
The existing stage at the Maidan will be demolished for setting up the musical fountain and a new stage will be constructed adjacent to it. The GCDA proposed the Rs 3 crore projects as part of the Marine Drive entertainment zone.
The show would be performed on a water screen which would double up as a musical fountain. It is expected that the project would be able to realize the investment in two years. The format and content of the show will be changed every three months.
On October 15, Minister for Urban Affairs, Manjalamkuzhi Ali, formally inaugurated the construction work of the laser show project. The GCDA has also proposed a mega aquarium and cable car in Marine Drive to promote the city’s tourism potential.
Meanwhile, the construction of the Thevara – Thykoodam bund road, another major project of GCDA was also started. “Leveling of the recently acquired plots and clearing the structures in the area near Kasthurba Nagar have begun.”
