Anantapur: Samaikyandhra activists on Sunday staged protests across the region to mark the death anniversary of Potti Sreeramulu recalling his sacrifice for the sake of Telugu speaking people.

The activists paid floral tributes to Potti Sreeramulu’s statue at Anantapur Municipal Corporation (AMC) office and raised slogans against the Congress led UPA government for splitting state without considering woes and concerns of Andhra and Rayalaseema people.

The joint action committees of various organisations paid tributes and recalled his sacrifice for the formation of Andhra Pradesh. Large number of Samaikyandhra activists staged protest at Sri Krishnadevaraya statue at SKD circle on out skirts in Kurnool.

Minor irrigation minister T.G.Venkatesh paid tributes to Potti Sreeramulu's statue at Kurnool. Addressing on the occasion, Venkatesh observed that the time had come for the people to fight against the bifurcation of the state.

"It is right time to stop the division of the state and it is the only tribute we can pay to the great leader who had sacrificed his life for the sake of Andhra Pradesh state and Telugu speaking people", T.G.Venkatesh said. He alleged that a section of selfish political leaders and individuals were hatching a plot to split the state for the sake of political mileage and personal motives.

Speaking on the occasion, district Congress committee president P. Ramaiah accused that the Telugu Desam and YSR congress party were blaming the Congress party for the state division process instead of taking back their opinion on bifurcation He alleged that T.D and YSR Congress parties were trying to gain political mileage by blaming the Congress.
