Chennai: An 18-year-old youth died and his 19-year-old friend was grievously injured after an MTC bus near Santhome church hit their two-wheeler on Sunday evening.
The bus (route No. 6D) was going from Adyar towards Marina while the two-wheeler was coming in the opposite direction. The bike had overtaken another two-wheeler when the MTC bus hit it while negotiating a corner and both bike-riders were run over by the bus, sources said.
One of the boys, Vignesh, riding pillion, fell and suffered a head injury and died on the spot while, Jagan is being treated in a critical condition at the government Royapettah hospital. Both of them were from the Chintadripet area, police said.
According to sources, the police are investigating if the youth were involved in drag racing prevalent in that stretch. Anna Square traffic investigation wing have registered a case and are investigating.
