Pakistan win playoff
New Delhi: An India-Pakistan hockey game often evokes the best of memories -recollection of the two countries' glorious pasts, free-flowing hockey and an attacking style of play .
On Saturday night, Pakistan defeated India 4-2 (1-1) via penalties to finish 9th in the Junior World Cup, after the two teams were locked 1-1 in regulation time, but it was hockey at its uninspiring best.
Muhammed Irfan, Muhammad Tousiq, Muhammed Umar Bhutta and Muhammed Dilber scored for Pakistan during the penalty shoot-out, while Muhammad Rizwan Junior was the only one to miss.
For the hosts, Gurjinder Singh and Talwinder Singh converted, before Imran Khan and Satbir Singh missed crucial penalties.
The home defence was in tatters early on. In the seventh minute, Muhammed Dilber received a long ball from the centre, and passed it to Rizwan Ali, who was positioned on the left.
Ali connected with ease, putting the ball past India goalkeeper Harjot Singh.
