Mukundan: CPM learnt no lessons

Sandhya wielded an invisible broom: Writer.

Kozhikode: Noted writer M. Mukundan, a CPM sympathiser, has said that the party has failed to learn any lessons from the repeated setbacks to its agitations. He also said that the housewife who exploded against the Cliff House blockade of the LDF had an invisible broom in her hand.

“If leaders fail to realise the changing public mood, the brooms would come back in search of them that would be like showers of arrows,” he said. “It was women like Ajitha and Sara Joseph who took the brooms first against erring leaders,” he said.

“The incident is not an isolated one,” Mukundan said, and added that the trend would spread across the state soon. “Though many have the urge to burst out like the woman, only a few would show the guts,” he said. In history, big changes started with such isolated outbursts of individuals.

“There is no politics in the case of Sandhya,” he said and added that it was her spontaneous reaction. “There are many persons who have lost overseas jobs due to ‘hartals’ and agitations,” he said. Connecting the incident with the success of ‘Aam Aadmi’ Party in Delhi, Mukundan said that there was no surprise in the electoral victory of the party.

CPM fellow traveller K.E.N. Kunhahammad declined to comment on the issue saying that he was not aware of it. But referring to the success of Aam Aadmi Party, he said it was a symbolic reaction against the mainstream politics. Symbols such as brooms considered as ugly and impure are a challenge to the politicians, he said.
