Chennai: A married police constable, attached to the 19th battalion of the CRPF, and working in Secunderabad, eloped with a local girl 14 years ago while on leave.

He has now paid the price by losing his job, the Madras high court confirming the order of the CRPF, which removed him from service for misconduct in June 1999.

A division bench, comprising justices N. Paul Vasanthakumar and R. Mahadevan, set aside the order of a single judge, which, in 2009, quashed the order of the CRPF and directed it to reinstate constable P. Yasin with continuity of service.

Pointing out that Yasin had admitted to staying with the girl, as per the charge memo, the bench said it was well settled in law that if there was unequivocal admission of guilt by the delinquent officer, no further proof was required to establish the charge and the disciplinary authority was entitled to impose appropriate punishment.
