Dhankot stays on top, Punjabi fights back

Vijay Punjabi of Karnataka fought his way back to top with an impressive average of 221.83.

Bangalore: Bringing his wealth of experience to the fore, Vijay Punjabi of Karnataka fought his way back to top to be placed fourth after bowling a total pinfall 1331. The former National champion logged an impressive average of 221.83 in the second block of six games in the second round of the 25th National Tenpin Bowling Championship at the BluO here on Friday.

Punjabi started with four consecutive 200+ scores in the first four games of the block but missed making it all 200+ scores mark by just nine pins in the game 5. He finished strongly in game 6 with score of 224.

The other notable performance of the day came from Varun N Ganapathy of Karnataka who started poorly in first game of
this block 166 but recovered brilliantly to roll scores of 235, 210, 211, 236 and 219. He finished with a notable average of 212.83 in six games.

Shabbir Dhankot of Tamil Nadu remains at the top at the end of second block of 6 games, taking his total to 4940 pinfall and overall average 205.83.

In the women’s section, defending champion Sabeena Athica bowled her second block of six games in the opening round with pinfall of 1169 and average of 194.83. Her steady performance helped her stretch the lead over her nearest rival Pooja Hegde of Karnataka to 121 pins.

Another city girl Judy Alban moved up by one place to the third position after scoring 1092 pinfalls with an average of 182.00 in the second block on short oil condition.

Sugandha Sarda of Delhi moved up to second with an average 176.17, recording 1057 pinfall.
