‘Minimise sand mining near rivers’

Bangalore: Solid waste generated by the construction industry should be used as an alternative to sand from riverbeds, said Dr Vamanacharaya, Chairman, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), here on Friday.

Addressing stakeholders and representatives at the inauguration of a seminar on “Alternatives to River Sand – A Sustainable Approach”, organised by the KSPCB on Friday, he said, “Waste, like furnace slag in steel industry, red mud generated from the aluminium industry and fly ash generated in the thermal power plants across the state, can be used to produce construction material like cement and sand.”
