Nikshep, Sanil to clash in U-16 final
Bengaluru: Top seeds B.R. Nikshep of Karnataka and Sanil Jagitiani of West Bengal set up a title tilt in the RT Narayan Memorial U-16 AITA Series championship on Thursday .
At the KSLTA stadium, Nikshep was in absolute command against fellow team-mate Adil Kalyanpur winning 6-3, 6-1. Kalyanpur gave it his best but Nikshep, the National U-16 champion was way too good.
In the first set, Nikshep struck in the fifth and seventh games to take a 5-2 lead, before Kalyanpur raised visions of a fightback with a break in the 8th game to cut back the deficit to 3-5 before Nikshep won.
In the second, Nikshep ran away with the match.
In girls, second seed R. Abinikka of Tamil Nadu, stormed in to the semis with a tough 7-6 (5) and 6-0.
She he was joined the last four round by sixth seed Shivani Swarup of Maharashtra, who beat Rutvik Shah of Gujarat 6-4, 6-0.
Nikshep and Jagitiani stayed in line for a double entering the doubles final, with different partners.
Nikshep and Yash Yadav of Madhya Pradesh ousted R.S. Mohit (TN) and Uttkarsh Bharadwaj (Utr) 6-1, 7-6 (2) while Jagitiani partnered Parikshit Somani of Assam in a 7-6 (4), 6-4 victory over Mayukh Rawat of Uttarakhand and P.C.
