Cops try to foil bid to burn effigy

TNSF activists attempt to torch the effigy of Jagan at V.R. College Centre on Thursday

Nellore: Police tried to foil the attempt of Telugu Nadu Students Federation members when they attempted to torch the effigy of Jagan at V.R. College Centre on Thursday.

The police intervention surprised not only the TNSF activists but also the onlookers since burning of effigies of leaders has become a daily ritual during the Samaikyandhra agitation.

Taken aback by the police move, TNSF activists demanded the reasons for stopping them from setting fire to the effigy.

They are baffled when police justified their intrusion stating that YSRC men will burn the effigy of Naidu on Saturday.

Notwithstanding the police objection, the activists completed their task by setting fire to the effigy of Jagan.

Meanwhile, the students JAC also torched the effigy of AICC general secretary Digvijaya Singh near the Gandhi statue centre here on Thursday on the occasion of his visit to Hyderabad.

The students also criticised Sonia Gandhi for going ahead with bifurcation exercise even after humiliating defeat in four states.

TD cadres led by party leader Nune Mallikarjun set fire to the effigy of TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao at V.R. College junction taking strong objection to his comments against Chandrababu Naidu.
