Cancer centre in campus of Cochin Cooperative Medical College
Kochi: A high-level meeting will be held on December 27 in the presence of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to discuss the modalities for setting up a cancer institute in Kochi, meeting a long felt need of the people of Ernakulam and nearby districts.
Health minister, V.S Sivakumar told reporters on Thursday that ministers, MLAs, MPs, the mayor and other stakeholders, who had been campaigning for the institute, would attend the meeting along with department officials.
Revealing that the cancer institute would be set up in the campus of the Cochin Cooperative Medical College, he said the director of the Regional Cancer Centre, Thiruvananthapuram had already prepared a preliminary project report and the task of preparing a detailed project report would be assigned to an agency after inspecting the proposed site.
Sivakumar said that a special officer will be appointed to speed up the process of takeover of the Kochi Co-operative Medical College by the state government.
The Health Department secretary, Director of Medical Education and the medical college principal will oversee this process, he said.
