SAI to shift to Calicut University
Thiruvananthapuram: The state cabinet meeting held here on Wednesday gave the final nod for the memorandum of understanding between Calicut University and the Sports of Authority (SAI) to shift the SAI centre from Kozhikode to the University campus.
The new centre will be set up over 20 acres for a lease period of 30 years. SAI has proposed to invest '35 crore in sports infrastructure, if the university leases out 20 acres.
“In the MoU, it is said that the SAI will construct an indoor stadium, outdoor courts, gym and swimming pools. There will also be an office and sports hostel for 200 players. The land will be leased for 30 years,“ said Sakeer Hussain, director of physical education, Calicut University .
“The project will be a major boost for our students. SAI has promised that they would complete the work within one year. Also, they have proposed an extension of '200 crore for the next phase of development.
“As the present training centre is situated in the city, SAI is experiencing space constraints for its activities. With the completion of the project, it would be a major help for the authority and the university,“ said Sakeer.
