Sreesanth to tie the knot

Kochi: This time, S. Sreesanth grabs headlines for the right reasons. Today, between 7.45 am and 8 am, the controversial yet well-liked cricketer will tie the thali to Bhuvaneshwari at the Sree Krishna Temple in Guruvayur.

Sreesanth had first met Bhuvaneshwari in Jaipur seven years ago when he went there to play a one-day match against Pakistan.

Much water has flown under the bridges but the Thakur girl, who belongs to the royal family of Shekawats, called Nain by close friends, decided to stand by him in his hour of crisis.

“For us, it is a change to a joyous occasion. And it feels good to have the backing of another family,“ Dipu Santh, the cricketer's elder brother, told Deccan Chronicle. The bride's party had arrived in Kochi on December 9 and they have been staying at Le Meridien hotel, managing to do so without attracting much attention.

On Tuesday night, a Mehendi function was held, attended by both the families and Sreesanth's close friends. “The thali kettu at the temple will be a family affair but a reception will be held in the evening at Le Meridien, where we expect around 1,000 guests,“ says Dipu.

There will be a Rajasthan style Baarat and Sangeeth ceremony too. Sreesanth's dress has been made by a Mumbai designer, while the bride's dress will be in typical Rajasthani style.

Another reception is being planned on December 14 in Kothamangalam , Sreesanth's home town, where they expect a larger crowd of about 3,000 guests.

“I can't say who all will come but people from various fields have been invited,“ says Dipu, who reveals that cricketers from the north are not expected and that another function may be held later on for them.
