Politicians gear up for 2014 elections

State politicians all set for the 2014 Lok sabha elections.
Karimnagar: As the Assembly and general polls are round the corner, budding politicians and elected public representatives including aspiring ones have become busybees with activities that help them in grabbing the attention of media and public in the district. As part of their strategies, a slew of programmes have been designed and held successfully. Fortunately, for them, there are suitable occasions and reasons that offer an ample scope to leave an impact on voters’ mind. An indirect campaign seems to be kicked off.
For instance, BJP’s win in elections for the Assembly of four states has enabled local leaders of the party to engage in celebrations.
Meanwhile, activists of the Congress are making the best use of the UPA’s nod for creation of Telangana state. Many thanksgiving programmes were held in the town. Similarly, the party’s president Sonia Gandhi’s birthday was celebrated on a grand note. Besides cutting of cake, distributing sweets, a 2K run event was held.
Interestingly, minister for civil supplies D. Sridhar Babu paid tributes to the theorist of Telangana cause Prof. Jayashankar by garlanding the latter’s statue. This has triggered debate among political circles.
On the other hand, followers and leaders of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) are engaged themselves in rebuking Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and YSR Congress chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for their objection to bifurcating the state. TD chief N. Chandrababu Naidu was also under attack for his remarks on bifurcation.
Aspirants of tickets are conducting public meetings to draw attention of parties to obtain tickets. Public organisations JAC chairman Gajjela Kant-ham organised a meeting in Gangadhara to thank Sonia Gandhi for creating Telangana. The meeting was perceived as an expression of interest to join a party.
“We are trying to draw the attention of a voter. This is how we can have focus of the media. We would like to be discussed and visible prominently,” said a leader who is aspiring to contest from Karimnagar town.
Meanwhile, major political parties have started searching for office premises that are accessible to followers and public. While Sridhar Babu had renovated his office in Manthani, BJP leader P. Muralidhar Rao started operating from a guest house in Vavilalapalli in place of his usual stay at Srinivasa Hotel.
