Thiruvananthapuram: DIG S. Sreejith has been denied promotion to IG rank as cases and inquiries are pending against him, while promotions of three other IPS officers have been cleared.
The screening committee headed by chief secretary E.K. Bharat Bhushan on Wednesday decided to recommend to the government to promote IG Intelligence S. Ananthakrishnan and IG Ernakulam-range K. Padmakumar to Additional DGP rank, and E.J. Jayaraj, DIG (SCRB - Digital Forensics and ICT) as IG. Though a case was earlier registered against Jayaraj for a drunken brawl in a train, the police team which probed the incident had given a clean chit to him. Hence Jayaraj was cleared for promotion.
In the case of Sreejith, who is now serving as investigation officer in the Human Rights Commission, cases and Vigilance inquiries were pending against him in connection with an allegation of cheating and the alleged attempt to trap a DySP by colluding with controversial businessman K. A. Rauf.
