Chirec stay unbeaten

Hyderabad: The girls team of Chire Public School beat Holy Family to continue their win streak at the Basketball Federation of India IMG-Reliance School League. Chirec Public School girls remain the only unbeaten team in the league stage of the Basketball Federation of India IMG-Reliance School League after they beat Holy Family 37-20 in Hyderabad.

Chirec trio of Sanhita (11 points), Natasha (9) and Drishti were in superb form as they overshadowed a brilliant individual performance by Holy Family’s Vinisha (14).

In another match, Delhi Public School scored a morale boosting 36-21 win over St Pious after leading the 19-16 at half-time. In their earlier match, St Pious had beaten DPS by 12 points.

Sreetha and Yogita combined well for DPS whereas Samheeta and Pooja played their parts well for St Pious. After a closely-contested first half, Delhi Public School resorted to man-to-man marking, stifling the St Pious forwards. At the end of the third quarter, DPS enjoyed a superb 30-19 lead, which they consolidated in the fourth quarter to win 36-21.

In the boys' category, St Andrew's High School registered an exciting 46-39 victory over Future Kids after trailing 10-17 at half-time. Future Kids started the match on a high tempo, scor ing consistently through Varma.

On the other end, they deployed a well-organised defence to thwart any attempt by St Andrew’s to score. However, after trailing by seven points at half-time, St Andrew’s boys rallied to unsettle their rivals. Later, St Andrew’s Zion levelled the scoreline, 17-17, in style with a superb three-pointer.

St Andrews’ continued their resurgence to end the third quarter with an advantage of 34-30. In the last quarter, Andrew’s added 12 points to the nine scored by Future Kids to wrap up the game 46-39.

ALWAL, VV NAGAR WIN AT FOOTBALL TOURNEY

?Alwal Football Club and V.V. Nagar registered important victories at the football league championship, organised by the Ranga Reddy Football Association in Hyderabad.

Alwal defeated V.V. Nagar 1-0 while V.V. Nagar managed to put that defeat behind them with a 1-0 victory over Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). Alwal took an early lead when striker Vishnu scored in the 10th minute of the match. They then fiercely defended the lead to seal the win.

Joshua Dharmender beat two defenders to score the only goal in V.V. Nagar’s victory.

SHIVANI, PRALOK ARE TENNIS CHAMPIONS

?Hyderabad’s Sri Sai Shivani and Pralok S. Ikkurthy won the girls’ and boys’ titles respectively at the Vasishta Open AITA Talent Series tennis tournament for under-14 boys and girls, played at the Carnival Club at Sainikpuri in Secunderabad.

In the final, Shivani and Pralok, both top seeds, faced little trouble in defeating their opponents. In the girls’ summit clash, Shivani, facing Andhra Pradesh’s fourth-seeded Dhriti Kapoor, didn’t take very long in wrapping up a 6-2, 6-0 victory.

The boys’ final was a clash of the top two seeds. But it failed it live up to its top billing as Pralok made light work of Thota Sai Pratheek, winning the match 60, 6-1 and with it, the title.

?All Star Club and C.V .S.R College of Engineering began their campaign in the VPG Open Basketball championship on winning notes in Hyderabad.

All Star defeated KV Picket 42-35 with Chandrahas top scoring with 25 while C.V .S.R. beat Panthers 26-21.
