Kerala takes lead against Goa U-16

KOCHI: Akhil Anil missed out on a century by three runs but he gave Kerala a solid lead against Goa on the second day of the Vijay Merchant trophy under-16 cricket tournament in Chennai on Tuesday .

Kerala lost their second wicket in the morning session before Akhil and Unnimon Sabu added a 116 runs partnership for the third wicket. The latter made 60 off 80 deliveries while Akhil played a patient knock of 97 off 213 balls before R.S. Bukkam trapped him leg before.

Prem Sagar was unbeaten on 34 when Kerala declared the innings at 345 for 9, having ensured a lead of 193 runs. Ashwin Anand was instrumental in taking the score past 300 with a 56.

For the Goans, left-arm spinner Hussain Khan bagged four wickets. At the close of play on the penultimate day, Goa had made 27 runs with both their openers unbeaten on the unlucky 13.
