‘Happy for AAP, but won’t enter politics’
Bangalore: Former Lokayukta and a Team Anna member Justice Santosh Hegde said that he is happy that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) made significant gains in the Delhi Assembly elections, but said he would never enter active politics.
He said that the AAP now has a responsibility towards the people and should work for the common good of society. The nation is wracked by corruption and politics without scruples.
“It does not matter whether Arvind Kejriwal becomes the chief minister or sits in the opposition.
What matters is carrying out the duties impartially and in a transparent manner,” he said. Answering media persons on former IPS officer Kiran Bedi’s efforts to bring AAP and BJP together to form the government, he said, “It is the prerogative of respective parties. The AAP should take decisions in the national interest.”
Asked whether he would join politics, he said, “I am aged and would rather sit outside the political system and offer suggestions and criticisms on how to make the system better than participating in it. I have toured 680 institutions and have given talks on making the system better.”
On Gandhian Anna Hazare’s second call for agitation to implement the Jan Lokpal Bill, he said, “Following the Jan Lokpal movement in 2010, the government announced that they would pass the bill in the next Parliament session, but still nothing has been done.”
