Youth killed days before engagement in mishap
Chennai: An Air India employee and his engineer son, travelling on a bike, were killed on GST road after a private bus plying between Chennai and Madurai on Monday night near Guduvancherry in Kancheepuram district hit their vehicle. The son’s engagement was scheduled for Friday.
The deceased were identified as Vajravel, 55, a time-keeper at Air India office at the airport, and his eldest son, Prasad Pandian, 24, working in the same office on temporary basis, residing in Guduvancherry.
The family had scheduled Prasad Pandian’s engagement on Friday and father and son were returning home after making some purchase at Tambaram when the mishap occurred.
The police said after hitting the bike, the bus dragged the two-wheeler for nearly 400 metres before coming to a halt near the EB bus stop.
The bus driver fled immediately after the mishap, which happened around 11 pm. Quoting the public who gathered there, the police said the driver could have been drunk when the accident occurred.
