Stop ‘witch-hunt’, appeals Lathika?
Kozhikode: K.K. Lathika MLA and wife of P. Mohanan, accused in the TPC case, has appealed to the media to stop the ‘witch-hunt’ against her. Addressing a press conference, she said that there was nothing ‘mysterious’ about her visiting her husband in the district jail here immediately after the Facebook and mobile phone controversy broke out.
“The two incidents have no connection as it would take a minimum of one hour and 15 minutes to reach the district jail from my house in Kutttiyadi,” she told reporters to prove that she had visited her husband much before the news came on television channels.
“I came to know about the incident after I came out from the jail,” she said. During her visits, she had only met her husband and not any other accused in the case, she said and added that she will continue to meet him in the jail.
CPM state secretariat member Elamaram Karim also criticised the media for the ‘sensational’ coverage of Lathika’s visit to the jail without verifying facts. The jail DGP himself had said that an MLA has the right to meet prisoners, he said.
The police team probing the mobile and Facebook incident gave a clean chit to the MLA on her jail visit, police sources said. “We have not found anything mysterious during the visit after examining the CCTV visuals,” said a police official in the probe team. The jail officials present during the meeting also had not noticed anything unusual during the visit, he added.
