Kottarakara ringroad funds sanctioned
Kollam: With the government releasing Rs 22 lakh for the survey of the ring road project at Kottarakara, there is hope of easing the heavy traffic on the Main Central road. The project envisages constructing 15 km of parallel roads on either side of the main Punalur – Kottarakara stretch.
“One road from Punalur will start from Mill junction at Kottarakara and join MC road at Mylom. Another is from SD College junction to the railway station.
The detailed project report will be submitted after getting the feasibility report from the preliminary survey. We will include waste land as much as possible to avoid acquisition,” said D.N. Rajeev, executive engineer, PWD.
The ring road will be four-lane which will cross the railway track at two places. Separate studies are to be conducted for level-crossings and overbridges.
The satellite survey and ground survey will be completed within four months. The parallel road also serves as an alternative for a bypass road proposed earlier at Kottarakara.
