After the stunning victory in the Delhi Assembly polls, the Aam Aadmi Party.

Thiruvananthapuram: After the stunning victory in the Delhi Assembly polls, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has welcomed Opposition Leader V.S. Achuthanandan into the party even as the veteran leader congratulated the fledgling political outfit on its win.

Senior Supreme Court lawyer and AAP functionary Prashant Bhushan told DC that he would be calling on Achuthanandan during his visit to Thiruvananthapuram from December 28 to 30.

“Yes, I will be meeting him,’’ he said and added that he would also go to Kudankulam to meet Uday Kumar, leader of the People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy which is spearheading the stir against the Kudankulam plant.

When asked whether there was any meeting ground between AAP and Achuthanandan, who is also in the forefront raising anti-corruption issues in the state, Bhushan said : “We will welcome him into AAP if he is willing to come out of his party.’’ Achuthanandan had earlier sent an e-mail to Arvind Kejriwal congratulating him on the astounding victory.

Regarding the activities of AAP in Kerala, Bhushan said that he would hold a meeting of party volunteers during his visit.

“We are looking for volunteers with a clean background who can be enrolled as workers ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. We are going to strengthen the party across the country,’’ he added.
He said the mass movement for Jan Lok Pal bill had brought in a large number of dedicated people and many of them later joined AAP.

“We had about 5000 volunteers in the beginning and closer to the elections we had a dedicated group of a couple of thousand workers who carried out the campaign along with local people,’’ he said.

VS praises AAP:

V S Achuthanandan lauded AAP while inaugurating CPM siege of Chief Minister’s residence Cliff House on Monday.

In Delhi they used broom as election symbol to wipe out the corrupt elements. Our womenfolk here are thinking whether they should also take up Kejriwal’s election symbol broom to sweep away Oommen Chandy, Biju Radhakrishnan and Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan,’’ he said amid applause from party workers.

Earlier, Achuthanandan sent an e-mail to Arvind Kejriwal congratulating him on the stunning victory. He said AAP’s fight against corruption had led to the victory and asked Kejriwal to continue their struggle against corrupt forces.
