Rajahmundry: In the aftermath of Congress suffering a humiliating rout in the recently held Assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and New Delhi, the supporters of Samaikyandhra are mounting pressure upon the Union ministers and MPs from Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions to withdraw their support to the Congress-led UPA government and dethrone it to thwart it’s move to divide the state.
The supporters of Samaikyandhra including NGOs, employees, lawyers, students and other stakeholders took out rallies and staged rasta roko and dharna denouncing the Congress government for ignoring the interests of nearly five crore people from Seemandhra region and going ahead with its move to divide the state.
Several NGOs under the aegis of Samaikyandhra Parirakshana Samithi and lawyers took out protest rallies carrying the effigy of Sonia Gandhi and burnt it expressing their ire against her decision on Telangana issue.
The lawyers made a fervent appeal to the Union ministers and MPs from Seemandhra region to come above their personal agendas and put aside their party flags and join together with one voice to keep the state united.
They also appealed to the ministers and public representatives to mobilise the support from other national and political parties and move a no-confidence motion against the UPA government and get it passed with good support.
They said that the Congress has no right to bifurcate the state as it is no longer enjoying the mandate of the people. Seemandhra lawyers JAC co-convenor Muppala Subba Rao said, “We are going to take up ‘Chao Assembly’, soon after the AP State Reorganisation Bill comes to the Assembly for debate.
We appeal to all the public representatives from Seemandhra to defeat the Bill in the Assembly and make it clear that the Congress is having no option except to allow the state to remain united.”
Meanwhile, Congress leaders and activists abstained from organising any celebrations to mark the birthday of Congress president Sonia Gandhi in protest against her decision to bifurcate the state. City Congress president N. Srinagesh, “We are feeling the pain in our hearts as our state is going to be divided.
Though we respect our president, but her decision is beyond her toleration.”
Meanwhile, employees of AP NGOs association organised protest rallies and observed the day as a black day and also the day of betrayal of Telugu people.
AP NGOs Association state vice president Asservadam said, “We expressed our ire and anguish by burning the effigy of Congress president Sonia Gandhi. We are making arrangements to take up Chalo Assembly to mount pressure upon public representatives to defeat the T Bill in the Assembly.”
