Hitech number plates from tomorrow
Hyderabad: The High Security Registration Plates project will start with all new vehicles in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts from December 11.
The main characteristic of the HSRP will be the “smart-lock” system, which will not allow any tampering with the plates. Once the number plate is embossed and fixed to the vehicle, any attempt to separate it will result in it breaking.
The project’s implementation in other districts of the state will be decided after 90 days, while for the inuse vehicles, fixing of HSRP plates will be completed in two years.
Transport commissioner G. Ananta Ramu said at a press conference on Monday that the tamper-proof registration plates could not be replaced and any attempt to tamper with them would lead to it breaking.
“Each registration plate will have an individual security code hot-embossed, a security hologram and an IND inscription. For four wheelers, a third sticker on the windscreen with the engine and chasis number of the vehicle as well as the serial numbers of the two HSRP plates will be stuck. The security features will leave zero scope for tampering,” he said.
The authorities have for now decided to go ahead with the implementation of the project with the current Andhra Pradesh series of registration numbers.
