FACT relents, work at Metro yard begins

Work at the Metro casting yard site at FACT-owned land in Kalamassery resumed on Monday.

Kochi: Work at the Metro casting yard site at FACT-owned land in Kalamassery resumed on Monday, following high-level talks initiated by Union Minister K. V. Thomas.

Construction activities there had been disrupted since November 13 due to concerns raised by FACT regarding cutting of trees in its compound.

“Union Minister K. V. Thomas himself talked to officials of FACT. The issue has been settled amicably. All the Metro works are progressing satisfactorily and we’re trying to complete the project within schedule,” Transport Minister Aryadan Muhammed said.

On Monday, a final round of talks was held by Abraham Oommen, Director (Finance), KMRL, and V. K. Anil, Director (Technical) of FACT.

“I am happy to see the work resumed at the casting yard, which is very important for the timely completion of the project. We are hopeful such issues do not impede the progress of Metro work in the larger interests of the city's development,” said Elias George, MD, KMRL.
