Development takes back seat

State bifurcation issue leads to political uncertainty in Vijayawada.

Vijayawada: The state bifurcation issue and lack of commitment from the ruling party leaders hit the development works in Krishna district, and especially Vijayawada city, which were pending for the past one decade. With the present political uncertainty in the state, the officials and leaders are not paying attention to complete the works.

The long-pending dem-and of a super-speciality hospital in Vijayawada still remains a distant dream for the people. The failure of the ruling party leaders and officials in allotting land for the super-speciality hospital resulted in the delay in establishing the hospital. Though Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy repeatedly appealed to leaders to find a suitable place, the leaders failed to finalise the land.

Lack of a bypass road for the city shows the negligence of the leaders. Though thousands of people die in road mishaps due to plying of heavy vehicles through the city, the leaders fail to take initiative for a laying a bypass road. Surprisingly, the vehicles coming from various destinations pass through the narrow road near Durga temple ghat road resulting in frequent accidents and traffic jams.

The abnormal delay in the construction of a flyover near Benz circle has no valid reasons. The vehicles passing on the national highway are causing traffic congestion posing a threat to local vehicle users. The vehicle users are forced to wait for three to four signals for crossing the Benz circle during peak hours.

The prestigious Dr NTR University of Health Sciences has no academic campus so far. The development of academic campus of the university is still pending.

The inner ring road works have not been completed so far due to delay in construction of road over-bridge near Gunadala. As a result, the police are diverting heavy vehicles through BRTS road, which is in the heart of the city and posing a threat to the safety of school-going children.

Coming to Bandar port, former chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy set foundation for the port on April 23, 2008. But the officials failed to ground the port works so far. The district administration and the ruling party leaders had failed to acquire land for the port works.

The widening of Vijayawada-Machilipatnam road is also pending for the past several years. Though the National Highway Authority claims that the works would commence soon the officials are yet to complete the land acquisition at some points.
