5 Tamil Nadu engineers die in Malaysia car crash

Car flies 20 metres down ravine of highway killing driver, TN men.

Chennai: Five youths, including the son of an inspector of police from Tamil Nadu, working as engineers in Singapore, died in a car crash in Malaysia on Sunday when they were returning from a wedding.

The car in which they were traveling flew 20 metres down a ravine of the Plus highway near Pedas/ Lingi toll plaza on Sunday evening, reports Singapore media. The car, a Toyata Altis, was reportedly going at a speed of 160 km per hour when the accident happened. The car was driven by a Singapore national who was also killed in the mishap.

Police Inspector Deva Kumar, father of Dharmesh, 23, who was killed in the accident, said, “My son did his MS there in Singapore and started working one and a half years ago.”

Devakumar said he contacted officials in Singapore and Malaysia who indicated that the post-mortem would be over by Tuesday and the bodies would be sent to India once the formalities were over.

The other casualties from Tamil Nadu were identified as Anand Meenaks­hi­sundaram, 23, K.S. Suresh, 29, V. Raghunathan, 28, and K. Vijay Karthik.

All were working in S T Kinetics in Singapore. Some of the colleagues and friends of the deceased had already left from Singapore to claim the bodies, a friend of one of the victims from Singapore told this newspaper.

Dharmesh completed his engineering at a private college in Sriperumbudur along with Anand. Raghunathan did his schooling in Mumbai and engineering in Chennai. Suresh was a native of Namakkal.
