Shahid Kapoor-Sonakshi Sinha bring in a Rs 30 crore weekend
Critical reception aside, the box office collections for 'R…Rajkumar' turned out to be as anticipated. The film earned a little over Rs 10 crore on its first day, with footfalls accounting for a reported 50 per cent opening. This is the highest opening for a Shahid Kapoor film and the second highest for Prabhu, after Rowdy Rathore.
With songs like "Gandi Baat", "Saree Ke Fall Sa" striking the right chord with the audience and the promos generating a fair amount of interest, a good opening was on the cards. However, there were some negative reactions as well, with most critics panning the film. Despite this, the film managed to gain consistent ground over the weekend, garnering Rs 30 crore* in revenue.
A solo release as well as absence of any competition whatsoever should help the film’s prospects over this week as well and the film should continue to find audiences, especially in single screen theatres — good news indeed for Shahid and his leading lady Sonakshi Sinha.
The other release of the week, 'Club 60', got good reviews but a sparse release, resulting in hardly any collections coming its way.
