St Francis rally to win

The girls from St Francis Junior College registered a come-from-behind victory over Holy Family at the BFI IMG-Reliance School League basketball

With the girls section of the Basketball Federation of India IMG-Reliance School League reaching the business end, St Francis Junior College rallied from behind to score an upset 16-12 win over Holy Family .

In the boys' category, Indus World School gave a scare to Chirec Public School before folding 25-28.

In a low scoring match, St.Francis Junior College defeated Holy Family by just four points after trailing 5-6 at half-time. In their earlier match Holy Family had beaten Francis by a huge margin.

Both the teams displayed excellent defensive organisation. The intensive focus on defence often lead to many fouls -as many as 65 personal fouls were committed in the match by both the teams. The low-scoring nature of the match continued even after half-time, with Holy Family leading 10-7 at the end of the third quarter.

However, with just six minutes left for the match, Holy Family's Vinisha committed an offensive foul, thereby gifting St Francis three free throws, of which Archana converted two. Later, Karuna scored through another free throw to tie the score 10-all.

With the clock winding down, Haindavi scored to restore Holy Family's lead.

However, the drama was not over as St Francis' Karuna scored through a brilliant threepointer to hand the team a one point advantage at 13-12.

Holy Family were in for more shock as Archana converted a free throw to make it 14-12 in favour of St Francis before Karuna wrapped up the match with a two-pointer.

In a closely-contested boys' match, Chirec Public School scored a comeback 28-25 win over Indus World School after trailing 15-18 at half-time. Indus played a fast-paced game from the start, scoring through quick breaks to take a 13-9 lead at the end of first quarter.

Indus maintained the tempo in the second quarter as well, leading the contest 18-15 at the ned of the second quarter. The half-time break only seemed to rejuvenate the boys from Indus as they dominated the third quarter to take the scoreline to 25-19.

However, in the fourth quarter of the match, Chirec Public School, desperate for some push from behind, switched to man-toman marking. The strategy choked the free-flowing game of Indus. On the other end, Chirec's Steven scored seven points to power his team to an unexpected 28-25 victory .
