I’m a new person now: Sunny Leone

Actress Sunny Leone says she wants to put her past behind her

Clad in a neon green anarkali and looking every bit the Indian, Sunny Leone was in the city to promote her film 'Jackpot'. “I play a character called Maya, who is a casino manager in Goa. Sachiin Joshi and Naseeruddin Shah are my associates and we plan a big con game,” says the girl who once went by the name of Karenjit Kaur Vohra.

From a successful porn star to a sought-after actor in B’town, Sunny feels like a new person. “The 14 years that I spent in the porn film industry were my past and I’m evolving into a new person altogether. I want people to appreciate me for what I am now and not associate me with my past.”

Her husband and biggest supporter Daniel Weber plays a cameo in 'Jackpot'. “Daniel is a born entertainer and I was happy to work with him,” says Sunny, who is happy to have moved base to Mumbai.

“This is something I had never imagined. I’ve got everything here, a house, a car. Moving to India has been a great learning experience and I’m a lot more comfortable here than I was in Canada,” she says.

We hear that 'Jackpot' features a stripping scene. Doesn’t that go against her plans to be taken seriously as an actress? “I wouldn’t call it stripping,” she argues, “It’s an intimate scene between two lovers. I just do what the script demands. If there’s a love story in a film, I believe these scenes should be included to show the chemistry between two people,” she reasons.

“I don’t look for movies that have intimate scenes. I just look at the script,” she says.

This is her first visit to Hyderabad and she’s looking forward to the city’s world-renowned biryani.

“I’ve heard so much about biryani and will make sure to savour it. I am glad that 'Jackpot' has brought me here. I'll make sure to come back again,” she promises.

Sunny will also be making her Kollywood debut with a special appearance in the film 'Vadacurry'.
