Balu, Reddy enter main draw of Ganesh Naik ITF Women's C'ships
Vashi: Youngsters Sharmada Balu and Snehadevi were the two Indians to make the main draw of the USD 25000 Ganesh Naik ITF Women's Championships after winning their respective matches.
Bangalore girl Sharmada Balu upset top seeded and 482 ranked Ran Tian of China 6-4 7-5 in an hour and 45 minutes, while Asian Junior Champion Snehadevi Reddy advanced after her opponent Bhuvana Kalva retired at 6-0 3-3.
In other matches of the day, Janina Toljan of Austria thrashed Prerna Bhambri 6-2 6-0, while Armenian Ani Amiraghyan scored a 6-2 6-2 win over Sharon Paul.
Ukranian Anna Shkudun scraped past Sai Samitha 7-5 6-7(4) 6-3 and Rika Fujiwara outplayed Natasha Palha 6-2 6-4 to make it to the main draw.
The tournament was inaugurated by Ganesh Naik, Minister of Excise and Non Conventional Energy.
Meanwhile, Magda Linette of Poland, ranked 152 in the world, will lead the seedings list in the main draw. She will take on wild card entry Nidhi Chilmula in the opening round.
Ankita Raina is the lone Indian player to be seeded at the tournament, at fifth, and she will take on qualifier Sharmada Balu in an all India clash.
Wildcard Rishika Sunkara has been drawn to take on Kamila Karim Bayeva, while Rutuja Bhosale will meet Ksenia Palkina.
