Arun forged papers: Vigilance

Vigilance Department files report against V.A. Arun Kumar for irregularities in his appointment.
Thiruvananthapuram: The Vigilance Department has filed a report against V.A. Arun Kumar, son of Opposition Leader V.S. Achuthanandan, citing irregularities in his appointment at the Institute of Human Resource Development. The report says that he lacked the required seven years of teaching experience and had submitted forged documents. The UDF is planning to bring the vigilance case to the forefront so that the Facebook row against home minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan and other controversies can be pushed behind.
It was during the previous LDF government’s term that Arun Kumar was appointed as IHRD chief. He was later promoted as additional director which was against service norms. The IHRD had just a single post of additional director, but three posts were created to help Arun Kumar. The Vigilance report says that Arun Kumar was also posted as a college principal at Kattapana so as to facilitate his elevation. He did not have the requisite experience for the post and to cover this up, he submitted forged certificates. This required filing a case against him, the report said.
The report has come as a blessing for the UDF. Though the next UDF meeting is yet to be finalised, there has been a clamour from majority of the allies to convene it in the wake of the latest controversies which have embroiled the front. The bigger allies, especially the Muslim League and the KC (M), have been complaining about the lack of unity among the Congress leaders. Smaller allies have been against the Congress taking a softer stand towards the Opposition.
“When the CPM has not minced words against the Congress and the UDF, why should we take a softer approach towards it? The Congress should not follow adjustment politics,” said KC (J) chairman Johnny Nelloor.
