Badal describes Congress' show as "trailer" for LS polls

Badal takes a dig at Congress' poor performance in the Delhi polls.

Chandigarh: Buoyed by the good performance of its ally BJP in assembly elections in Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday described Congress party's performance as a "trailer" for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

Speaking at a function in Rajpura, Badal said he had predicted that the Congress would be eliminated from the country in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls and his prophecy has come true as the party has failed miserably.

He said it was a "trailer and the full picture" was yet to come as the Congress has been badly routed in Delhi, which was once considered as a strong bastion of the party.

The five-time CM, who turned 86 today, alleged that the Congress had always been inimical to the interests of Punjab and said with winds of change blowing across the country Narendra Modi-led NDA would oust the Congress-led UPA from the Centre.

Earlier speaking at a function in Bathinda, the Chief Minister said that "now the time has come to reply suitably to the Congress."

"The results of assembly elections are a clear indicator that the people of the country have completely rejected the Congress," he said. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister and SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal announced to spread the party's reach at the national level. He said that the next target of SAD is Uttar Pradesh and it would field its candidates in UP in seats having a sizeable Punjabi population.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Badal, who is also patron of the Shiromani Akali Dal, in a statement issued here this evening, hailed the victory of SAD-BJP alliance in the Delhi assembly polls and described it as a "historic mandate in the favour of its pro-people policies and outright rejection of Congress due to its anti-poor stance and rampant corruption."

The Chief Minister said these election results were a "referendum for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls in 2014."

He said these election results were a pointer towards the impending rout of the Congress-led UPA government from the Centre thereby paving a way for the BJP-led NDA government.

Badal also praised the performance of SAD candidates in the Delhi polls, saying "it is a testimony to the unflinching trust and confidence, which the people especially the Punjabis have reposed in the policies and programmes of the party."
