You've ogled at the ogres on the silver screen; now get a chance to see them for real. Make room for ogre-sized entertainment, as 300 kids; in the age group of 8 to 18 bring to life this greatest fairy tale through a musical extravaganza.
The brave and challenging venture will come to life with this musical adaptation of 'Shrek'. Director of 'Shrek' and music faculty of Bethany High, Miriam Andrews shares, “'Shrek the Musical' is the story of a hero's journey where you are isolated and stuck in your place and are forced to take a step out into the world and what you learn there makes you a new and hopefully better person."
It's the sixth production, with the earlier ones being 'Smike', 'Yo Sista', 'Under da Sea' and Disney's 'Aladdin Junior'.
Sonali Peres of Standard 12, who plays the role of Fiona says, “We are three Fionas and the others are in second and eighth standard. We have become good friends now. I have also learnt that beauty is not skin deep." Akash Ryall, director of Bethany High is excited about the next production as it sends a message of hope. He says, “There are a lot of messages in the story of 'Shrek' - that of truth, hardships, friendship and love, kindness, courage and self acceptance." Quoting one of the lines from the movie, he says, “Beautiful isn't always pretty. Through this professionally staged masterpiece, the story of wit and intelligence, we hope to be a strong platform for many souls who want to find expression. We also got rights from MTI and Steven Spielberg's Dreamworks to use the logos for this licensed production. The sets are extensive with interesting props and costumes and the proceeds of this event will go towards the aid of 70 differentlyabled students of Bethany Special School."
Bethany High's Shrek the Musical is being held on December 12, 13 and 14 at the Jyothi Nivas College Auditorium.
