Delving into the world of nostalgia is what Barun Chanda, a writer and Bengali actor, has written in his book, Rabibar (Sunday).
He will release his book at Atta Galatta today and also inaugurate the first ever Bengali Books Corner in Bengaluru at the store. “Rabibar is based in 70s Kolkata and it tells the tale of a man whose life alters its course in a single day, that is, Sunday," says Barun.
Satyajit Ray's legendary film, Seemabaddha, was Barun's first film. Incidentally, he didn't work on a feature film for 20 years after Seemabaddha. Vikramaditya Motwane's Lootera was his first Hindi film.
“During the shoot of Seemabadha, there was this one silent shot that I had to act in. It was a long shot but he cut it down to a few seconds. When I asked him why he did it, he told me that you should take a shot for your creative satisfaction but, ative satisfaction but, when you sit down at the edit table, you have to be as heartless as you can ever be. This changed my entire view of film making and since then I could not compare his class with any other director,“ says Barun.
Speaking of having a Bengali book store in Bengaluru, he says, “I think that this initiative will invite a lot of Bengali readers living here, which is above five lakhs. They will have a place where they can read about their culture and heritage," says Barun
