Home minister plans meet of top cops to check disturbing trend of missing girls.

Belgaum: A meeting of top police officers would be held soon to find a way out to check the growing number of cases of girls going missing in Karnataka, Home Minister K.J. George told the Legislative Council on Thursday.
He said as many as 24,663 girls were found missing over the last three years with Bangalore (Urban) topping the list with 2743. In the case of boys, 13,795 were missing over the last three years. This was a disturbing trend, but the police have been able to trace 21, 993 girls and 11, 214 boys, he added.
The home minister said police officers have been trying to create awareness among young boys and girls through a NGO after tracing them. They will also provide an opportunity to parents to convince their children in case of elopement and marriage.
BJP member Banu Prakash has urged the state government to list out the reasons for large number of girls going missing. In case of elopement with youth other religion, police officers should provide an opportunity to parents of girls to convince their daughters, Prakash added.
