BSY-BJP merger by next Monday?
Indications are that the decks would be cleared for Yeddyurappa's homecoming next week.
Bangalore: With four days to go for the crucial executive committee meeting of KJP, leaders of the state unit of BJP revived their efforts to facilitate the reentry of former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa during a meeting with party president Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on Thursday.
The leaders state unit president Prahlad Joshi, national general secretary Ananth Kumar, former deputy Chief Minister K.S. Eshwarappa and former minister Aravind Limbavali reminded Rajnath Singh about his assurance on reinduction of Yeddyurappa after elections in five states. They told him that Yeddyurappa's return would help the party win more seats in next year's elections to Lok Sabha.
In turn, Rajnath Singh reportedly assured them that the central leadership would take a final call on the Lingayat strongman's reentry after announcement of results of Assembly polls on Sunday, December 8.
A die-hard supporter of the former Chief Minister said the central leadership would take a decision on December 8 as assured a month ago, but ruled out the possibility of Yeddyurappa going to Delhi to hold discussions with central leaders of BJP. The former Chief Minister would likely send his aide to Delhi for discussions with senior leaders than travel for negotiations.
Sources in BJP said Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi would have a complete hold over the party in case of a landslide victory in four northern states, making it easy for him to take a unilateral decision on reinduction of Yeddyurappa.
Meanwhile, Eshwarappa told Deccan Chronicle that Rajnath Singh reiterated that a decision would be taken soon after elections results are out.
"He has assured that he will hold discussions with senior leaders and take a final call," he said adding that the central leadership would adopt a resolution or pass on the responsibility to the state leadership to take a decision.
The leaders, however, did not broach the topic of reentry of former health minister and BSR congress president B. Sreeramulu and his supporters during their meeting with Rajnath Singh.
