Two-wheelers of patrol policemen to get siren, beacon
500 police patrolling bikes in the Greater Chennai area will get soon have the red and blue beacon lights and siren.
Chennai: Nearly 500 red coloured two-wheelers used by beat officers manning the interior roads and narrow lanes of the nearly 750 sq km area of Greater Chennai, will soon have the red and blue beacon lights combined with an option of siren.
With the city police redesigning the two-wheelers used officially by beat officers, beat patrolling in Chennai is all set to get a facelift. “All two-wheelers of beat officers will have uniformity in appearance with beacon lights fixed on both sides.
The work is on,” a senior police officer said on Thursday. The side of the bikes will have ‘beat officer’ written on it , The head lamp will have station code number written on it besides the ‘police’ sticker.
Bikes and SUV patrol vehicles will have the similar coloured beacon system. “All four wheeler patrol vehicles in the city now have the red and blue beacon lights switched on 24X7. Similar coloured beacon lamps and siren will be given to beat officers’ bikes as well,” a senior police officer noted.
The idea is to give all patrol vehicles – be it four wheelers or two wheelers – an uniform identity, the officer added.
