Stone mining: FIR against Hangal MLA
Congress MLA under investigation for backing stone crushing and mining by a private company.
Hubli: Congress MLA, Manohar Tahasildar is being investigated by the Lokayukta for backing stone crushing and mining by a private company on land that villagers of Nelibeed in Hangal taluk claim is part of a reserve forest.
The Davangere Lokayukta, which was ordered by the Haveri district court to investigate the legislator’s role in the affair, filed an FIR against him in Haveri on December 2.
It all began with the mines and geology department giving 10 acres of land for stone crushing and mining in Nelibeed village, Haveri district to DR Infrastructures Engineers and Contractors of Hubli, angering the villagers who said the area was part of a social and reserve forest.
More protests erupted after the tahasildar in his report to the department said the land was barren and outside the purview of the forest department. The villagers then filed a petition in the Hangal civil court charging the legislator with using his influence to prepare the "false " report owing to his own interests in stone crushing and mining.
