Pro-Telangana students of Osmania University clashes with police.
Hyderabad: Pro-Telangana students of Osmania University clashed with the police for a second consecutive day in protest of the government’s proposal of Ralayala Telangana on Thursday.
Scores of students, who tried to take a rally were stopped at the NCC gate by the police. The students pelted stones at the police injuring a police inspector. The police then retaliated with teargas shells to disperse the protesters.
Kacheguda detective inspector Vijay Srinivas, who sustained minor injuries, was given first aid treatment at a nearby hospital. Student leaders claimed that four students received minor injuries in the teargas firing.
After a lull of few months, the OU campus once again erupted with violence following the bandh call given by TRS to oppose the proposal of Rayala Telangana by GoM.
Student protesters owing allegiance to different political groups, including OUJAC, took a rally towards Gun Park from the Arts College but were prevented from going ahead at the NCC gate by paramilitary forces. Following a heated argument, students started pelting stones at the cops. “The stone pelting continued for three hours. We observed utmost restraint, but, finally had to use tear gas shells to disperse them,”?said OU police inspector Ashok.
Meanwhile, a group of students jumped over the campus walls and went to Gun Park and started shouting slogans when the police rushed to the spot and took th-em into preventive custody. Eleven student agitators were taken to Nampally police station, and released later.
Police have booked a case against the students for rioting and hurting a public servant.
