Manhandle attempt on murder accused
Kollam: The lawyers of the JFCM Court II here tried to manhandle the two accused in a murder case outside the court on Thursday alleging that they were trying to influence the police investigation.
The accused are Sulfikar of Kulappadam, Kannanalloor, and his father Ibrahimkutty.
Sulfikar had attacked advocate Badarudheen resulting in his death at Kottiyam on Sunday night when he had gone there for talks to settle a family dispute.
The lawyers tried to manhandle the accused when they were taken out of the court. The two rushed back to the court room seeking safety.
The court enquired about the incident and registered their complaint. Police later took them away.
The lawyers allege that the police initially had charged IPC section 302, murder attempt, in the FIR, but when it was produced in the court, the section was changed to 304, culpable homicide. The Bar Council also demanded a Crime Branch inquiry into the alleged conspiracy involving the police.
The murder happened when Badarudheen went to the house of Shemeera, his relative and client, for compromise talks on a marital issue with her husband Sulfikar.
The court had earlier banned him from entering her house. Sulfikar violated the order and when Badarudheen showed him the court order Sulfikar turned violent and hit him with a wooden peg on his head.
