KSPCB yet to implement SC order
Karnataka State Pollution Control Board yet to implement SC order to curb pollution.
Bangalore: The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) has failed to implement the Supreme Court order which has laid down a fourteen point programme to curb pollution.
In 2003, the Supreme Court has laid down a 14-point programme, directing the pollution control boards of the respective states, to curb pollution in seven cities. Following the direction the state government formed a task force to ascertain the levels of pollution at outer ring roads and at areas where the density of vehicles are high.
Auto rickshaws are the major culprits which emanate poisonous chemicals that lead to air and environment pollution. The Supreme Court had directed state governments to issue permits to only those auto rickshaws which are fitted with LPG engine.
Some of the other important points were, producing emission certificates while filling petrol and diesel at petrol stations, forming task force to keep a tab on adulteration of fuel, enhancing infrastructure, curbing unauthorised use of boilers and generators.
The pollution control boards have been recording the pollution levels at city’s important locations. But the pollution level recorded are shocking. The sources in the KSPCB said discussions are n at government level. Once they are finalized the KSPCB would implement them in principle.
