Green tyres will reduce fuel intake: Study
Green tyres could slash fuel consumption by up to 7 per cent: Study
Chennai: Green tyres could slash fuel consumption by up to 7 per cent, reduce annual fuel bills by hundreds of pounds, and cut CO2 emissions by up to 1 kg every 60 miles.
Auto owners can easily save 8-10 per cent of their fuel cost by merely using right tyres and about 20-30 per cent of a vehicle’s fuel consumption is related to tyres as it is consumed to overcome rolling resistance while 24 per cent of a vehicle’s CO2 emissions are related to tyres, said a study by Lanxess, the world’s largest producer of high performance synthetic rubbers used to make green tyres.
“Complex rubber compounds in tyres absorb heat energy transmitted by the engine and induce rolling resistance and rolling resistance and fuel consumption have an immediate impact on CO2 emissions,” said Mr Christoph Kalla, head of marketing and research of the company.
About 24 per cent of a vehicle’s carbon-di-oxide emissions are related to tyres and hence, replacing the standard tyre in a car with a high performance tyre or green tyres could lead to fuel savings of around 8-10 per cent as they offer better wet grip and greater mileage by cutting down carbon emissions, he added.
