BJP to hold ‘unity run’ at 65 places in TN, Pondy
BJP to organise a ‘run for unity’ to generate fund for Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel statue.
Chennai: In an effort aimed at recognising the contribution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and to reinforce his values, the BJP will organise a ‘run for unity’ in mid-December at 565 places across the country including 60 centres in Tamil Nadu and five in Puducherry, Gujarat home minister Rajni Patel said here on Thursday.
The event will be held simultaneously at all the selected places throughout the country on December 15. “The nearly 2- km run will be organised to bring the nation together to create ‘Ek Bharat’.
“A number of competitions will also be held for school and college students to spread awareness on the Iron Man of India,” Mr Rajni Patel told BJP members.
Addressing a workshop organised by the state unit of the BJP to apprise members about the event and also to collect used iron for the Statue of Unity mooted by the party’s prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, the minister said Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Rashtriya Ektha Trust had been constituted to execute the stupendous 182-meter tall iron statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Gujarat.
A research centre has exclusive been established to design the statue, which will be a tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai for building today’s India. This ambitious project is coming up at Sadhu Bet, an island located 3 km from Sardar Sarovar Dam.
Party president Pon Radhakrishnan called upon the members to ensure the run a success. He also urged them to involve actively to collect used iron from farmers, to be used for making the statue.
BJP national secretary Dr Tamilisaisoundararajan, its organising secretary S. Mohanarajulu, and state secretary Vanathi Srinivasan were among those who spoke.
