Two African nationals allegedly beat up a biker and tried to push him off the flyover
Hyderabad: A scuffle broke out on the Begumpet flyover on Thursday afternoon when two African nationals allegedly beat up a biker and tried to push him off the flyover.
The two men followed an IT professional, abused him and pulled him down from his bike, before punching him repeatedly in the face. Other commuters rescued the injured man and caught his attackers. The duo was then brought to the Panjagutta police station, where a complaint was lodged.
The police booked a case against Abul Khadir, 24, a native of Somalia, and Muhammad Anayat, 25, a native of Sudan, for criminal intimidation and wrongful restraint. While one of the accused is a student of Nizam College, the other studies in a private college.
The incident took place around 3 pm near the Country Club. The victim, P.M. Anoop, 29, who works for Alliance Global Services, narrated the incident: “When I halted my bike at a traffic signal near Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet, the duo was behind me. They honked continuously for me to move ahead even though the signal was still red. I turned around and asked them why they were honking. After that they started following me and abusing me. They overtook me at the Begumpet flyover and blocked my way. They pulled me down and then punched me in the face. They also tried to push me off the flyover. If the other motorists had not come to my rescue, I would have fallen off the flyover.”
“We suspect that the men were in an inebriated condition. They were sent to Gandhi Hospital to verify if they had consumed alcohol or taken drugs,” Panjagutta police SI Ravinder said.
Anoop, who recei-ved a minor injury in the assault, was administered first aid treatment. The police will produce the accused in court on Friday.
