Bandh today to protest Rayala Telangana
Hyderabad: Normal life in Telangana region is likely to be hit on Thursday, following a bandh call given by the Telangana Rashtra Samiti opposing the Centre’s alleged move of creating a Rayala-Telangana state.
The impact of the bandh is likely to be intensify as the Bharatiya Janata Party, Telangana Joint Action Committee and CPI, besides various students’ outfits, have extended support.
Educational institutions will be shut and the Osmania University has postponed exams scheduled for Thursday. University registrar, Prof. K. Pratap Reddy, in a statement said that the rescheduled dates were available on the varsity’s official website, www.osmania.ac.in.
The Ambedkar Open University and Kakatiya University, Warangal, have also rescheduled their exams.
The Telangana Government Doctors Association, meanwhile, announced that its members would suspend emergency services for a day from Wednesday midnight.
Petrol pumps and cinema halls will also be shut till 4 pm. Banks will however, function normally.
The South Central Railway has announced that all long-distance trains will run as per schedule. The MMTS services in the city will also run normally. However, services of the state-owned APSRTC will be hit as the two major employees’ unions, EU and TMU, have extended support to the bandh. Several auto unions in the city have also extended their support. The Telangana region is tense once more following the Group of Ministers on the state’s bifurcation hinting that the Centre may consider a Rayala Telangana state.
Contrary to the Congress Working Committee and subsequent Union Cabinet’s resolution to create a Telangana state with 10 districts, the GoM is toying with including two more districts, Kurnool and Anantapur, in the proposed state.
The T-protagonists have been vehemently opposing the idea, wh-ich they say, will dampen the long-cherished dream of people of the region to have their own state.
On Wednesday, senior TRS leader and MLA T. Harish Rao accused Seemandhra leaders of coming up with yet another move to halt Telangana. CPI floor leader G. Mallesh alleged that the Congress was hinting at a Rayala-Telangana state to blackmail TRS and make it agree for a merger before the polls.
Employees from Telan-gana region demonstrated at the Secretariat after a gap of two months. The employees raised slogans opposing a Rayala-Telangana state during the lunch hour.
As many as 13 students’ organisations met on Wednesday and decided to organise a “Chalo Raj Bhavan” on December 16.
According to reports reaching here, rallies and protest demonstrations were also organised in many parts of Telangana.
