Nellore: Nellore rural Congress legislator Anam Vivekananda Reddy took potshots at his party leaders J.C. Diwakar Reddy and T.G. Venkatesh for backing the Rayala Telangana proposal during a media conference here on Wednesday.
He said that both the Rayalaseema leaders are not heirs of Krishnadevaraya to ask for Rayala Telangana.
He took a dig at Diwakar Reddy for his statement that Anantapur and Kurnool were under the rule of Quli Qutub Shah.
“It seems Diwakar Reddy is adding his own chapter to the history. People of Rayalaseema are known for their valour and they will not pledge their self-esteem and accept the merger. In fact the people of Anantapur were the first to react sharply against bifurcation followed by Kurnool and they were the torchbearers of the Seemandhra agitation. The people of the two districts as well as peoples representatives of the region never asked for Rayala Telangana,” Vivekananda Reddy said.
When asked about minister of state for railways Kotla Surya Prakash Reddy lobbying for Rayala Telangana, he said, “In my view he is not supporting the proposal.”
He said that Seemandhra legislators, irrespective of party affiliations, will not support Rayala Telangana under any circumstances. He alleged that Nellore and Kadapa districts will become deserts if Rayala-Telangana becomes a reality.
Reacting to a question on whether all legislators of Seemandhra will join together to vote against the Telangana Bill in the Assembly, he said that there is no other alternative for them.
He added that NGOs, students and people of the region, through their agitations, made the legislators fall in line and back Samaikyandhra.
When asked about the TRS’ stand against Rayala Telangana, Vivekananda Reddy said that K. Chandrasekhar Rao wants only a Dora to rule Telangana and he is opposing Rayala Telangana because it will bring the Reddys into the scenario.
Nellore town legislator M. Sreedharkrishna Reddy and former corporator Sannapareddy Penchal Reddy were present among others.
