Phone mulakat inaugurated
Anantapur: Jails DG G. Jayavardhan inaugurated ‘phone-communication mulakat’ for the prisoners with family members instead of direct face-to face meeting as part of security measure, at district jail in Reddypalli here on Wednesday.
This was first ever system introduced in the state to prevent entry of mobile phones, cigarettes, liquor, cash and drugs into the prison during face-to-face mulakat.
“The prisoners could speak only on the mobile phone with their family members standing outside the prison during mulakat,” the DIG said.
District Superintendent of Police M. Farooq Ali said relatives would be permitted to speak for 30 minutes over phone where a glass covered at the mulakat room.
Previously, relatives and friends had direct access with the prisoners during the permitted period of mulakat at the prison.
In the wake of illicit entry of ganza, cash, mobile phones and other prohibited material being supplied by family members during the meeting, the prison authorities introduced new system at district prison.
“Internal security of jail and inmates would be tightened by this experiment,” he said.
As part of visit, DIG G. Jayavardhan inspected the barracks and interacted with the prisoners.
