No toilets, drinking water! Raw deal for cops at session

K'taka government seems to have forgotten to make basic arrangements police personal deputed for duty.
Belgaum: The state government spends nearly ten crores on the Belgaum session which is slated to conclude on Thursday, but it seems to have forgotten to make arrangements to provide sufficient food and basic infrastructure including toilets and drinking water to nearly 5000 police personal deputed for duty.
Karnataka Secretariat Employees Co-operative Society Director M.N. Pillappa dashed off two memorandums to Assembly Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa and Director General of Police L.R. Pachao for not providing toilet and bathroom facilities to nearly 200 police personnel deputed for duty outside Suvarna Soudha.
Though the issue was brought to the notice of Belgaum Deputy Commissioner N. Jayaram, the DC has not taken any steps to meet the demands of police personal, Pillappa claimed in the memorandum.
Women police constables are facing a lot more hardship than their male counterparts because of the lack of toilets and drinking water, said sources.
Though good quality food has been arranged for the session, policemen have to stand in a long queue to get the food. Sometimes, they are not able to get enough with bureaucrats and staff of ministers having had their lunch earlier.
Employees and the police have also sought transport facilities to take them from their hotels to Suvarna Soudha. The Speaker took cognizance of the memorandums and directed the Deputy Commissioner to provide drinking water and toilet facilities to the policemen immediately.
